Life is not all about home inspections! We also love to travel outside Brandon, Mississippi and even outside the country and are always looking for a new, out of the way place to visit or eat. So...here are a few of our favorites.
Central Mississippi
Beagle Bagel, Ridgeland, MS – Sandy and Cori’s hangout. The chicken salad is the best in town.
C S’s, Jackson, MS - Charlie recommends the burger – in fact, he says it’s the best burger in town. Read their reviews.
Foodies, Jackson, MS - For all you who miss the Iron Horse Grill - these are the same owners and you can even get the Iron Horse chips and salsa here. Try the meatloaf with the incredible glaze.
Sways, Flowood, MS - Nice but not fancy. The sweet pepper sauce is incredible.
Candy Confections, Flowood, MS - good for all types of sweets. Charlie prefers the petit fours that are a few days old. They make great cakes too!
Around Mississippi
The Crown, Indianola, Mississippi. - another of Charlie's finds. He loves to look for little out of the way places when he travels the state. Be sure to let him know of any of your favorites.
Porches, Wesson, Mississippi, You have to try the lemonade green beans. It's worth the drive for a Sunday lunch. Check their hours because they do vary.
Walnut Hills, Vicksburg, MS, - Not just for wedding receptions! We've enjoyed a nice romantic meal here on an anniversary.
Around the United States
Tucanos, Albuquerque, NM, This is a Brazilian Steakhouse. Not only is the food great, it is so much fun! We've eaten at a number of Brazilian Steakhouses but his is still our favorite.
Pappadeaux, Houston, TX, Seafood that is wonderful. Don’t forget the Alligator for an appetizer.
Manny’s Chop House, Haines City, FL (Orlando area), This is a family favorite. Sandy’s parents go here regularly and we all LOVE it. This has to be Jon’s favorite restaurant of all time. GET THE RIBS!
The Arch, St. Louis. Sure it’s a tourist place but Sandy went up when she was a kid – right after it was built. No old people jokes please.
Bon Ton, New Orleans, Said to be oldest Cajun restaurant in N.O. Charlie loved the crawfish Louise
Café Du Monde, New Orleans, coffee and donuts – perfect balance. Also a favorite of our dogs – they love powdered sugar.
Zeller’s Donut, Battle Creek Michigan, Family owned donut shop, another stomping ground from Sandy’s childhood
Turkey Farm, Marshall, MI, A little too commercial now but still brings back incredible memories (do try the peanut butter pie)
Bilbos pizza, Kalamazoo, MI, Not only great pizza but they have an incredible salad dressing
Enchanted cottage – around Lancaster PA. We spent our honeymoon here back in 1994 and they are still there. Hopefully we’ll get to go back one day.
Around the World
Vienna Austria, Chestnuts at subway entrances
Cancun
VERY BEST MEAL EVER: Since we were on a mission trip we didn't visit the usual tourist spots. However, we did visit a Mayan villiage and were invited into a home, watched the women sitting on little stools making home made torillas on an open fire, using some type of round metal piece to cook on. They were flipping the torillas by hand (no spatula or anything). Then they invited us to share a meal with them. Out came a mixture of eggs and leaves (didn't ask what was in it) and we had lunch. As we left the neighbors cut coconuts out of the trees, opened them and we drank the milk. WOW.

We have plenty more in Austria, Romania and Hungary but spelling the names is tough. We'll find them and get them on here - maybe we should go back and visit again first!
